Belinda Bencic vs Ann Li Prediction — Beijing, Monday, October 5, 2026

Belinda Bencic vs Ann Li prediction: Beijing moneyline odds, a hip that keeps failing her, and why the desk is passing on this match.

Belinda Bencic is -222 to beat Ann Li in Beijing, with first serve set for 3:00 AM ET Monday, October 5, 2026. On the surface, a Belinda Bencic vs Ann Li prediction is easy: Bencic's twelve-month hard-court form is well clear of Li's, and the market price reflects that. Dig into the last five weeks, though, and a hip problem that has already cost Bencic two events makes the gap look thinner than the moneyline suggests.

This is a PASS. The model is not backing either side, and nothing that follows should read as a quiet lean toward Bencic or a hidden angle on Li. It is simply not a bet we are making tonight.

Why Bencic is still the favorite on paper

Over the last twelve months on hard courts, Bencic is 20-9 against opponents rated in her tier or above, holding serve 77% of the time and winning 39% of her return games. Li's hard-court line over the same stretch is 21-17 against a lower bar of opposition, with a 72% hold rate and a 33% return-game win rate. Both the hold numbers and the return numbers favor Bencic. Her best wins this year have also come against higher-rated players than anything on Li's resume, which is the normal case for a -222 favorite.

The hip is the real variable

Bencic walked over her Toronto quarterfinal in August with what she described as hip pinching that would not let her move, then retired in Cincinnati a round later after losing the first set with heavy strapping on her left knee. She then lost a tight three-set match at the US Open, dropping the last four games and closing it out on a double fault. After that she did not play again for 32 days, missing Guadalajara, Seoul, and the BJK Cup Finals for Switzerland. In the matches she has finished since that layoff, she is 1-1, with a walkover and a retirement also on the ledger from the stretch before it.

Her one finished result since the break, a straight-sets win over a much lower-ranked opponent, was solid: she won 56.2% of total points, a tick above her 53.1% twelve-month hard-court norm. But it came with a wrinkle. She faced only two break points in that match and was broken on both, and by her own account she struggled more as the second set wore on, which tracks with a player still managing a hip rather than one who is fully past it. One clean match after five weeks off is a data point, not proof the issue is resolved.

What Li does when her first serve lands

Li's game is the definition of first-strike tennis, and it is also exactly the shape that gives Bencic trouble on paper. Against players with Bencic's style, a mid-tier server, Li is just 2-5 on hard courts over the past year, holding only 62% and winning a mere 25% of her return games there. That profile is a real weakness, and it argues against treating her as a live threat in this specific matchup on raw form.

Except the two have already met, at last year's US Open, also on hard courts, and Li won 6-3 6-3. That day she won 75% of her own service points and 73% on second serve alone, both far above her usual level, which sits closer to 45% on second serve across her larger sample. It reads as an outlier performance rather than a repeatable pattern, but it is the one match where Li has actually beaten Bencic, and her new result in Beijing, an 83.8% first-serve-win rate on 60.7% of first serves in, shows the same formula can still be there when it clicks. Her second serve remains the soft spot: she won just 37.5% of those points in Beijing and faced nine break points across nine service games, saving eight of them. Bencic's own return game has been winning 59% of points against second serves this season, which is the number to watch if this one goes long.

The verdict

The twelve-month numbers say Bencic in straights, and a market price of -222 is not out of line with a 77% holder facing a player who struggles against her exact style. But a hip that has produced a walkover, a retirement, and a 32-day layoff inside the last two months is not something that twelve-month sample can see, and Li has a documented blueprint for beating Bencic from their only meeting. The desk is passing on this one rather than pricing a side with that much still unresolved.
