Katarzyna Kawa and Daria Snigur meet in Ningbo qualifying Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 11:00 PM ET, and the market has this one lopsided: Snigur is priced at -385. Any Katarzyna Kawa vs Daria Snigur prediction has to start with that number, because it says the book sees this as close to a formality.
The model's own read is messier, and it lands on a PASS.
Why the long-window numbers still point to Snigur
Over the past 12 months on hard courts, Snigur is 16-7 with a 67% hold rate and a 44% break rate. Kawa is 5-8 over the same stretch, holding 56% and breaking 38%. Snigur's hold rate sits above Kawa's, and her break rate does too, so on the full-season hard-court ledger this isn't close.
The two met 18 days ago on hard, in Beijing, and Snigur won the decider 7-5 after Kawa took the first set. The return numbers from that match still favor Snigur: she won 21 of 37 points on Kawa's second serve, against 15 of 33 the other way, even with total points close at 101-92 and six breaks apiece.
Zoom out further and a pattern shows up: against low-serve grinders on hard over the past year, Kawa is 1-7 and holds just 52%, while that same opponent type holds 68% and breaks 48% against her. That's the bucket Snigur falls into on serve profile, which is why the long-term tape still says Snigur even before factoring in this week's matches.
The case against backing the price
Snigur's own most recent matches tell a different story than the 67% hold rate implies. She beat a No. 889 wildcard in her last match but did it with zero aces and seven double faults, winning only 41 of 76 service points and getting broken five times. The match before that, she lost to Tjen 7-5, 6-3 while winning just 28 of 61 service points and getting broken six times. That's three straight matches with double-fault counts of five, three and seven.
The return game is carrying her — she won 56% of total points against the wildcard and attacked the second serve at a 24-of-38 clip — but the serve itself is leaking in a way the 12-month averages don't fully capture yet.
Kawa, meanwhile, arrives with 17 days of rest behind her, after beating an injured Katie Volynets in a Q1 match that ended in a retirement at 4-3 in the second set. That's not a form upgrade on its own — Kawa's own first-serve rate in that win was just 41% — but the rest edge is real, and Kawa has a habit of starting fast against this kind of opponent. She's lost five hard-court deciders this year, four of them after winning the first set, two of those to Snigur specifically, including the Beijing match 18 days ago. A shakier-served Snigur is exactly the kind of opponent who lets that pattern repeat.
The number that matters
Kawa's first-serve rate sits at 54%, and she wins only 45% of points behind the second serve. Snigur's second-serve return has been running at 58% this stretch, which is the exact matchup that number is built to attack. If Snigur's serve holds at anything close to her season rate, that return edge should be enough on its own. The open question this week is whether the serve that just leaked seven double faults against a No. 889 is still that serve.
The verdict
This is a PASS. The desk is not backing Kawa-Snigur at -385 — this is not a bet we are making today.
