UFC 332 doesn't need a marquee name to hide a real stylistic puzzle, and Andrey Pulyaev vs Damian Pinas is that puzzle. There's no market line attached to this one, and the desk is logging the read rather than staking it, but the tape tells a clean story: a southpaw with a documented habit of getting hit standing up walks into an orthodox counter-puncher who has already finished a fight with the exact shot that habit invites.

Andrey Pulyaev

Pulyaev's issue isn't power or activity, it's what happens when he's forced backward. Twice in 2026, Gautier, a rangy power puncher, dropped him with right hands while Pulyaev retreated in a straight line with his chin up rather than off the centerline. That isn't a one-off; Daniyalbekov finished him in the first round in 2023, and against Kondratov he was seen giving ground to heavy overhands along the fence rather than circling off. Three different opponents, three different nights, the same picture: Pulyaev under pressure in open space is hittable.

The flip side is that Pulyaev is a live threat the moment a fight hits the floor. He carries a ground finishing resume of three ground-and-pound TKOs and two submissions, which means if he ever gets a entry off the fence into top position, the fight can end fast and on his terms. The problem is getting there. His UFC run sits at 1-3, and in his most recent appearance Duncan out-landed him 73 to 18 in significant strikes, a gap that says he hasn't shown he can out-strike UFC-level competition over three rounds. Everything about his path to winning this fight runs through forcing a clinch or a scramble, not standing and trading.

Damian Pinas

Pinas is the stylistic nightmare for a southpaw who backs up under pressure. He's an orthodox counter-puncher who sits in the center of the cage and lets opponents come to him, with a 79.5-inch reach that lets him do that patiently instead of chasing. He's already shown what happens when someone walks onto that patience: he ended Almeida with one right hand down the middle, the same shot Gautier used twice to put Pulyaev down and the same line Daniyalbekov used to finish him. A counter-puncher with Pinas's reach doesn't need volume against a southpaw who gives ground in straight lines; he needs one clean read.

Pinas isn't a finished product defensively. His clearest flaw on film is what happens after he commits to those punches: twice against Gregory he was taken down along the fence and held in half guard for roughly a minute and a half each time, and Almeida got him there once as well. That's a real crack, and it happens to line up with the one way Pulyaev can win this fight. If Pulyaev can turn a Pinas entry into a fence takedown instead of trying to win the exchange standing, he has finishers waiting on the ground. The fight is really a question of which fighter gets to operate in his preferred phase.

How the fight plays out

Both paths are real, but one of them has shown up three separate times against three different opponents, and the other has shown up against one. Pulyaev's standing vulnerability isn't a theory, it's Gautier twice, Daniyalbekov once, and Kondratov once, all variations of the same thing: he backs up straight, his chin rises, and he eats a right hand. Pinas is an orthodox counter-puncher with the reach to sit and wait for exactly that pattern, and he's already produced the finish that punishes it.

Pulyaev's counter is real too. If he can get underneath Pinas's punches and turn one of those committed exchanges into a fence takedown the way Gregory did, his ground-and-pound and submission record says the fight can end there. But that requires him to survive the standing phase long enough to find it, and his UFC sample, including getting out-landed 73 to 18 by Duncan, doesn't show a fighter who controls that phase on volume. The more repeatable failure mode is Pulyaev's, not Pinas's, and it happens earlier in the sequence.

The lean here is Pinas, landing the same shot that has already hurt Pulyaev twice this year, before Pulyaev ever gets the entry he needs.

The verdict

The pick is Pinas. His counter right hand down the middle is the exact shot that has already dropped or finished Pulyaev multiple times, and Pulyaev has to survive the standing phase before his fence-takedown path ever becomes available. No market line is attached to this fight, so the desk is logging this as a read, not a bet.
