Teodora Kostovic vs Yihan Qu Prediction — Guangzhou, Saturday, October 24, 2026

Teodora Kostovic vs Yihan Qu prediction: the model likes Kostovic's hard-court form, but a shaky second serve keeps Saturday's Guangzhou opener off the card.

On paper, a Teodora Kostovic vs Yihan Qu prediction for this Guangzhou WTA first-rounder looks like a mismatch in form: one player just ran off seven wins in ten hard-court matches, the other is seventeen years old and still hunting her first career win over a ranked player. First serve is Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 6:00 AM ET.

The model's lean is Kostovic. The card, though, marks this one PASS. There is no official action behind it, and no market price is posted on the pick to chase anyway.

Why the model likes Kostovic

Kostovic's stretch since mid-September is the strongest form she has shown in a while, and all of it came on hard courts, the same surface as Saturday. She reached the Ankara WTA 125 final, beating Carolyn Ansari, Elena Ruxandra Bertea, Fangran Tian and second-seeded Polina Iatcenko before losing a three-set final to Berfu Cengiz. She followed that in Adana, beating Cengiz again and grinding past Dalma Galfi in three sets before falling to top-seeded Antonia Ruzic in the quarterfinal. Then in Rovereto she beat Elsa Jacquemot before an R16 exit. That is 7-3 across three events, with wins over players well above anything Qu has beaten this year, and nine days of rest heading into Guangzhou.

Not every one of those wins was clean. Against Jacquemot and Galfi, Kostovic actually lost the overall points battle and leaned on break-point conversion and a strong return to get through. Still, the level is real: a top-150 player beating a quality field on the surface she'll play on Saturday.

Why it's not a bet

Here's the catch. In those same close matches, Kostovic won only 36-38% of her second-serve points, well down from a 48.6% baseline over the past twelve months. That is a real second-serve slip, not noise, and it's the kind of number that gets exposed in a long match. Kostovic also has a specific habit worth flagging: she has lost the deciding set after winning the first against Rus, Baptiste, Cengiz and Ruzic. Four separate times this year, a lead has not held up over three sets.

Qu's best effort this season was a three-set, three-hour-plus battle with Harriet Dart in Beijing, where she came back from a set and a break down before finally losing serve late in the third. It shows she can turn a match into exactly the kind of long, grinding decider where Kostovic's second serve and nerve have both wavered. That upset path is real enough that the model isn't backing Kostovic here. We're not making this bet, and that's as far as the public read goes.

The hold-and-return number

Zoom out to the twelve-month hard-court numbers and the gap still favors Kostovic. She holds 73% of her service games and wins 29% of her return games on hard; Qu holds 64% and wins just 15% of hers. Qu's return has been the softer side of her game even against lesser competition — she won only 32% of return points in her most recent pro match, against a player ranked around No. 515. On a wide sample, that is a real structural edge for Kostovic.

But a season-long average doesn't erase a second serve that has been trending the wrong way in the matches that mattered most, or a deciding-set record that keeps going the other way. That tension between the broad numbers and the recent trend is exactly why this one stays a pass rather than a play.

The verdict

The case for Kostovic is real: better recent form, a deeper hard-court sample, and a return game Qu simply hasn't shown she can match. The case against is just as real: a second serve that's been leaking in close matches and a pattern of losing deciders after leading. With both pulling in different directions and no price to weigh them against, this stays off the card. Not a bet we're making on Saturday.
