Our Daniil Medvedev vs Alexander Bublik prediction for Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 9:00 AM ET starts with a lean the model actually likes, even though it isn't putting money behind it. Medvedev is the heavy favorite at -333 on the Almaty hard courts, and the numbers behind that price hold up when you check them. Bublik, meanwhile, is serving as well as he has all year, which is the whole reason this one isn't as lopsided as the price suggests.

That mix usually produces a confident call. Here it produces a PASS, an official-card pass with no action attached, even though the read underneath still tilts toward Medvedev.

Why the model leans Medvedev

Medvedev is 6-1 since October 7, and the two wins in Almaty are the cleanest data point in the file. Against Terence Atmane in the quarterfinal he faced zero break points and won 91% of his first-serve points; two rounds earlier against Sho Shimabukuro he won 81%. Across both matches he also won 40-54% of his return points, which is not a passive number. That run lines up with, and slightly extends, his 12-month hard-court baseline against similarly ranked fields: a 36-12 record, 86% of service games held, and 29% of return games won.

Bublik's recent serve numbers are real, 18 aces against Zverev in Shanghai and 21 against Khachanov in the Almaty quarterfinal, but his return has not moved. He won none of five break points and only 14% of points against Khachanov's first serve in that match. That is squarely his established hard-court shape: an 89% hold rate paired with a 16% break rate, a profile built mostly against lower-ranked fields than the one he's facing here.

The case for Bublik

The pushback on Medvedev isn't nothing. Bublik's game plan in this match is straightforward: hold serve all the way through, let the set get to a tiebreak, and lean on the Almaty crowd as the No. 3 seed and home favorite. He has run that exact script before against Medvedev, beating him 6-3 7-6 at Halle in 2025 on the strength of his serve and a tiebreak. That result is worth noting as a pattern, but it came on grass, not hard, so it illustrates how Bublik likes to win rather than proving he can do it under today's conditions.

There's also a workload wrinkle. Bublik smashed a racket and hurt his playing hand during a medical timeout in Shanghai in mid-October, but whatever lingered hasn't shown up in his results since: 21 aces and only 3 double faults in the Almaty quarterfinal alone. If anything, his serve looks sharper now than it did going into that injury.

Where the numbers still split

Medvedev's record against big servers specifically, rather than the field as a whole, is his softest spot: 8-5 on hard courts. That's the same shape as the Halle loss, and it's the reason Bublik's serve-and-tiebreak plan isn't crazy. But the two also have a hard-court head-to-head, and it favors Medvedev 4-0, with the most recent meeting back in February 2023. That record is old enough that it shouldn't carry the pick on its own, and it sits alongside the Halle result as a secondary data point rather than a deciding one.

Run the current form through that same big-server lens and Medvedev still comes out ahead: he breaks big servers on hard courts 20% of the time to Bublik's 13%, and holds 91% against them himself. Project that forward and Medvedev projects to roughly 88-90% holds in this match against 82-85% for Bublik, a gap that favors Medvedev on both sides of the ball even after accounting for how well Bublik is serving. Medvedev's best 2026 hard-court wins also rate higher, over Alcaraz, Tiafoe and Paul, than Bublik's top wins over De Minaur and Fritz last October.

The verdict

Add it up and the model's read on the tennis still favors Medvedev, both on current form and on the longer hard-court baseline behind it. But the market has this priced at -333, and that isn't a price the model is backing with a bet today. This one is a PASS on the official card, no action, full stop. We're not going to pretend a no-play is a soft lean or dress it up as a pick we're quietly behind; it's simply a game we're watching, not betting, when the ball goes up Saturday morning.
